The Mekong Delta is located in southwestern Vietnam and famous by Mekong River which is one of the world greatest rivers. The delta covers an area of almost 40,000 square kilometers (km2) and includes 13 provinces. There are some Khmer originating in Cambodia, ethnic Chinese, but most are Viet. There are 2 typical seasons in Mekong Delta: dry season and rainy season. December to May is dry season which is the best choice for tourists to discover this beautiful place. The color of rivers changes to light blue in this season.

The rest of the year is rainy season the color of rivers changes to brown. There is flooding at times but the rain just be like an afternoon shower for the rest of the dry day.

How to travel to Mekong Delta

Mekong is located near Ho Chi Minh City, so it’s easy to reach.

• By air

The tourists need fly to Ho Chi Minh – Tan Son Nhat International airport first. Then, from Ho Chi Minh, catch bus to Mekong Delta by roadway. Two main bus stations in Ho Chi Minh are Mien Dong and Mien Tay Bus Station.

• By ship

If you go to from Cambodia to Mekong Delta, it’s so easy and convenient by waterway. You can go from Phnom Penh to Chau Doc in An Giang province. It will be a great experience when you travel by waterway on Mekong River.

• By land

It’s easy to travel from Kampot to the southern of Cambodia to Ha Tien in Kien Giang. Also, now bus connection between Phnom Penh and Can Tho are available.

Famous attractions in Mekong Delta

Cai Be floating market is around 40km from Can Tho city. The ideal time to visit the market is from 5am to 7am

Vinh Trang Pagoda is located in Tien Giang province and typical for Western – Asia construction style.
